Pada tanggal 12 Desember 1989, dan disambut langsung oleh Menhankam/Pangab L.B Moerdani di Lanud Iswahyudi, Madiun. Akhirnya, kedua F-16 pertama yang dimiliki oleh RI mendarat setelah melakukan perjalanan ferry yang panjang dari Dallas Fort Worth, Texas. Penerbangan perdana ini dilakukan oleh Mayor Penerbang Sidehabi dan Mayor Penerbang Rodi Suprasodjo. Penerbangan ferry ini memakan waktu dari tanggal 8 sampai dengan tanggal 12, melewati rute Dallas – Hawai-Guam – Madiun. Diselingi menginap istirahat dan isi bahan bakar di Hawaii serta di Guam. Bagaimana dengan 10 pesawat F-16 RI yang lain? Ternyata kedatangan pesawat-pesawat tersebut tidak sekaligus, namun secara bertahap. Dan akhirnya pada tahun 1990, lengkap sudah elang-elang udara ini mengisi homebase mereka di skuadron 3, lanud Iswahyudi dan siap menjaga kedaulatan wilayah udara RI. Dengan telah lengkapnya F-16 RI, proyek Bimasena dinyatakan berakhir.

12 Pesawat F-16 RI yang dipesan dari AS terdiri dari 8 pesawat berkursi tunggal (A) dan 4 pesawat berkursi ganda (B) dimana kedua pesawat tersebut merupakan F-16 dari Block 15 (Operational Capability Upgrade )OCU. F-16 A/B Block 15 OCU dilengkapi Westinghouse AN/APG-66 Pulse-doppler radar, Pratt & Whitney F100-PW-200 turbofan, dengan 14.670 lbf (64.9 kN), 23.830 lbf (106,0 kN) dengan afterburner.
F-16 A/B Block 15 OCU berbeda dengan versi awal dari F-16 produksi awal. F-16 A/B Block 15 OCU dibuat dengan memenuhi standar Operational Capability Upgrade (OCU), yang mencakup mesin F100-PW-220 turbofans dengan kontrol digital, kemampuan menembakkan AGM-65,AMRAAM, dan AGM-119 Penguin, serta pembaruan pada kokpit, komputer, dan jalur data. Berat maksimum lepas landasnya bertambah menjadi 17.000 kg.
